Posted on 08. Mar, 2010 by admin in Volkswagon

I’m looking at purchasing one but my dealer said it only takes premium because of the turbo engine? anyone have any pros/cons to a 2004 volkswagon passat?

If it only takes premium, I would think again.

I know that with some cars, the car will not work with a lower octane and just shut off. I know that with the CX-7 you have to pay $50/$75 to have them flush the system.

i don’t own a passat but i own a Lexus Rx 300 which requires premium gas but i cheat alot and use unleaded. Ive had the vehicle since 1999 and have not experienced any engine troubles with it.

I would expect, that a Volkswagen Passat, when given regular fuel, might passat gas.

Seriously, you might void your warranty if you use other than what the dealer says. At a minimum, it will run roughly and sluggishly, and your performance will be disappointed.

I run my little motorbike on 95 octane gas, which is mid-range. (I live in Taiwan). 92 is OK for tootling around town. I once accidentally put 98 in my little 125 cc scooter, and I thought it had suddenly grown an extra cylinder. There was definitley another horse in the herd.

well my mom works for volkswagen and drives a 2006 passat 2.0 turbo she puts premium gas but i just asked her and she said that it dosent mess up the engine or turbo at all it just reduces performance so your good if you put the regular gas

Being a VW man for years I can tell you nothing bad will happen. You will lose performance and fuel mileage. That being said, because of the increased fuel mileage using premium will only cost you a few cents more. Also using the good stuff will help prevent carbon build up.
Do the math. I know in my Jetta there is a difference of 4.2 mpg between regular and premium. that means my total annual cost for fuel is only about $40.00 more and the car is much more fun to drive.

Arthur is right.. Nothing eill happen, Don’t be dupt into that premium only fuel stuff, Unless you have a extream high end car. V.W. Passat doesn’t qualify

87 RON Octane will burn just fine in a 1.8T VW motor, no worries. Some say that the car accelerates faster with Super Premium, but I have never noticed that.

I use 89 RON Octane in my 2.0T GTI without any problems.
